One Suspect Arrested In Mutangadura Murder Case, 7 More Still At Large

The Zimbabwe Republic Police have announced two major successes: the arrest of a prime suspect in the shocking murder of Ruwa businessman Joseph Mutangadura and the dismantling of a sophisticated armed robbery syndicate that had been terrorising Bulawayo.

The long arm of the law has finally reached Phillip Mutasa, a 38-year-old man now in custody for his alleged involvement in the brutal killing of 67-year-old Joseph Mutangadura. The businessman was murdered at his property, known as the Mutangadura Hideout, on Dunstan Road in Ruwa back in August of last year.

After a meticulous investigation, detectives from the CID Homicide unit tracked Mutasa down to a residence in the Mkoba 6 suburb of Gweru.

Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the critical arrest. He revealed that the suspect is already providing crucial information to investigators.

“Phillip Mutasa has since implicated seven accomplices who remain at large,” Commissioner Nyathi stated, adding that “investigations are ongoing as detectives pursue the suspects believed to be behind the fatal attack.”

Mutangadura was murdered in a targeted attack at his Ruwa farmhouse, where seven masked assailants took nothing of value, leading police to doubt robbery as a motive.

As part of their investigation, authorities have seized his wife Patience Dambudzo’s cellphone, fueling speculation of an inside connection. The couple’s relationship had been under public strain since last year due to infidelity allegations, which Mutangadura had acted upon by temporarily moving out.

Though they had recently reconciled, their marriage remained tense. Patience, who was found unconscious and critically injured during the attack, haD denied the alleged affair and had remained a central person of interest in public opinions on social media.
