Up-and-coming MMA star Paddy Pimblett is ready to face off against the legendary Tony Ferguson at UFC 296. Pimblett is determined to secure a victory and hand Ferguson his seventh straight loss.
Ferguson, a former interim lightweight champion, is in search of his first win since 2019, but Pimblett hopes that the veteran fighter will retire on a high note in the future.
Reflecting on the opportunity to fight Ferguson, Pimblett said, “It’s an honor to be able to fight Tony Ferguson. When I was a kid watching UFC at 15, 16, he was in the UFC then. It’s like that cliché saying when your heroes become your rivals. It’s one of them. Even I want to see Tony go out on a win, but I can’t let him do it at my expense. It’s not happening.”
Ferguson has undeniably been one of the best lightweights in the world, with a streak of 12 consecutive victories from 2013 to 2019. Despite his recent losses, Pimblett is preparing for the best version of his opponent.
Pimblett also addressed Ferguson’s age and the impact it may have on his performance, stating, “That’s what happens when you get to that age. But I’ve trained for the Tony that turned up against Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis and Edson Barboza and Kevin Lee.”
With Pimblett’s career on the rise, he is eager to prove himself against Ferguson and continue his winning streak. Don’t miss this highly-anticipated showdown at UFC 296!
