Kate Middleton’s Hospitalization: What you need to know
Being in a hospital following abdominal surgery can be a royal pain.
However, Prince William has been seen showing unwavering support for his wife, Kate Middleton, who recently underwent surgery. The Prince of Wales was spotted driving away from the London Clinic on Jan. 18, where Kate is staying for her recovery after his visit.
This sighting comes one day after Kensington Palace announced Kate’s hospitalization. According to a statement from the Palace, “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in the hospital for 10 to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
The Palace also highlighted Kate’s “desire to maintain as much normality” for her and William’s children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, during this time.
While the Palace stated that updates on Kate’s progress will be provided only when there is significant new information to share, a Palace source confirmed to NBC News that the condition is noncancerous.
As Kate recovers from surgery, William is reportedly adjusting his schedule and postponing engagements to be with her.
Meanwhile, that’s not all for royal health news. On the same day that Kate’s surgery was announced, Buckingham Palace revealed that King Charles III “has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.” His condition is benign and he will undergo a corrective procedure next week.
As for the decision to publicly share the king’s diagnosis, a Buckingham Palace source told NBC News that His Majesty wanted to encourage men with similar symptoms to get checked by a doctor.
To add to the royal headlines, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark made history by abdicating the throne on Jan. 14, passing it down to her son, now King Frederik the 10th.
