Half of publishers initially expected revenues to increase last year, but only about a third of them actually saw revenue growth in 2023. However, half of publishers are optimistic and expect their revenues to fare better in 2024.
According to Digiday+ Research surveys of over 100 publisher professionals, publishers’ revenues didn’t quite meet their expectations for 2023. More than half expected 2023 revenues to increase, but only about a third actually experienced revenue growth compared to the previous year.
While this highlights publishers’ struggles in 2023, it is not stopping them from hoping for a better year in 2024. In fact, half of publishers agree that their companies’ ad revenues will grow this year, albeit to varying degrees.
So, how much do publishers think their revenues will actually grow this year? Digiday’s survey found that 58% of publisher pros said in Q4 2023 that their 2024 revenues will increase by at least 1% compared with their 2023 revenues, which is a significant share.
