Many passengers were reportedly injured on Tuesday August 27th following a late-night collision involving two Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses at the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos.

The accident occurred after a BRT bus collided with an oncoming BRT bus while trying to avoid hitting a commercial motorcyclist illegally using the dedicated corridor, according to LASEMA’s spokesman, Nosa Okunbor.

“Upon arrival of the Agency’s Response Team at the incident scene, the LRT discovered a road traffic accident involving two BRT buses, registration numbers unknown, at the aforementioned location.

“Investigations at the scene revealed that the BRT bus, headed inward Iyana Ipaja in an attempt to avoid crushing a commercial motorcyclist with passengers plying the BRT corridor illegally, collided with an oncoming BRT bus.

While no lives were lost in the accident, Okunbor confirmed that passengers of both buses suffered varying degrees of injuries. He added that injured passengers were taken to the nearest hospital before the arrival of the Agency’s Response Team.

Tuesday incident comes nearly four days after 10 passengers were injured after a fully-loaded high-capacity Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus fell on its side inside the dedicated BRT lane at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.
