Square Enix’s Exciting Minecraft-Inspired Game Finally Coming to PC After Seven Years

Get ready, because Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest Builders is finally coming to PC after seven long years.

Released in 2016, Dragon Quest Builders is a delightful open-world survival game that combines Minecraft’s blocks with Dragon Quest’s lore. It’s a game that allows you to build bases while playing through pre-written storylines and quests. While it initially launched on PS3 and PS4 in 2016, it then came to Switch in 2018, followed by a release on phones. However, the popular blocky survival RPG never made it to PC—until now.

On January 29, Square Enix surprised us all by announcing that the original Dragon Quest Builders would be hitting PC on February 13. After almost a decade, it seems Square Enix finally remembered that people might want to play this game on their personal computers.

What’s even more unusual is the fact that the game’s sequel, Dragon Quest Builders 2, was released on consoles and PC in the United States back in 2019. Square Enix is even offering a bundle on Steam that combines both games in one package. While it’s great to see the original game finally getting an official PC port, I’m still puzzled as to why now.

I also can’t help but wonder: Will Xbox players get to enjoy Dragon Quest Builders later this year? DQB2 was released on Xbox in 2021, a few years after its launch on PS4 and PC. However, the first game never made it to Xbox. With this random PC port on the horizon, maybe Square Enix will surprise Xbox players with a very belated DQB port, too. Who knows? Stranger things have happened.
