Sylvester Stallone Credits Carl Weathers for the Success of ‘Rocky’: A Heartbreaking Tribute

Sylvester Stallone, the man himself, took a moment to honor his co-star, Carl Weathers, who passed away in his sleep at the age of 76.

The two actors famously faced off in the ring in the first two films of the iconic boxing franchise, and remained friends long after the final movie, Rocky IV, in 1985.

Stallone posted a video on his Instagram, reminiscing about Weathers and their experiences filming the groundbreaking movies. In his caption, he wrote, “We lost a legend yesterday. My life was forever changed for the better the day I met Carl Weathers.”

In the heartfelt video, the Tulsa King star credited Weathers’ portrayal of Apollo Creed for the success of the film franchise, claiming it wouldn’t have been what it was without him.

Stallone expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of Weathers, emphasizing how integral he was to his life and success.

He revealed that he was standing in front of an abstract painting of him and Weathers, hinting that it marked their last moment in the ring together. It’s a memory he will cherish forever.

“He was magic, and I was so fortunate to be part of his life,” Stallone concluded. “So, Apollo, keep punching.”

Weathers’ impact extended beyond Stallone as Happy Gilmore director Dennis Dugan and star Adam Sandler also paid tribute to him.
