SZA Talks About Removing Breast Implants to Avoid Breast Cancer
SZA recently shared that she made the decision to remove her breast implants in order to reduce her risk of developing breast cancer. Speaking on the S.H.E. MD podcast, the TDE singer discussed her family’s medical history, where breast cancer has affected her mother and aunt.
With a 53% lifetime risk of breast cancer due to her family history, SZA explained how getting breast implants led to complications like fibrosis, a condition described by the National Institutes of Health as an excess deposition of collagen.
During her consultation, SZA’s doctor discovered significant fibrosis in her breasts, prompting her to opt for implant removal. Despite being advised against implants due to her family history markers, the 34-year-old singer proceeded with the procedure, which ultimately caused discomfort and scar tissue due to her breast density.
Reflecting on her experience, SZA shared how this situation led her to prioritize her health and make informed decisions about her body. She emphasized the importance of consulting with spiritual guides to gain clarity before embarking on medical procedures.
Aside from her breast implant ordeal, SZA has been candid about her past decision to undergo a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), a surgical procedure she considers high-risk. In a 2023 interview with Elle, the artist expressed that the choice to have the surgery was entirely her own, highlighting her autonomy in body modification decisions.
SZA’s journey serves as a reminder of the importance of health awareness and making informed choices when it comes to cosmetic procedures, especially in the context of family medical history and personal well-being.
