Get ready, because this year’s MLB Winter Meetings is expected to bring some big news for the Cardinals. Fans are hopeful that the team will focus on trading for another starting pitcher and solidifying the bullpen. However, something unexpected could be brewing in Nashville, Tenn.
For the first time in 25 years, the Cardinals have a legit opportunity to snatch a top pick in the MLB Draft. The excitement is building as the Draft Lottery is set to take place on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. CT at the Winter Meetings, and the Cardinals have the fifth-best odds (8.3%) to land the top overall selection in the Draft.
Following an uncharacteristic 71-91 season, the Cardinals are determined to turn things around and take advantage of this opportunity. “It’s a strange feeling to be picking this high,” said Randy Flores, the Cardinals’ assistant GM/director of scouting, “but it is an opportunity for us.”
The chance to draft an outstanding amateur player doesn’t come around often. The new lottery system implemented by MLB aims to create a fairer process and discourage extreme losing.
Now it’s just a matter of time till we see how it all plays out. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness the Cardinals take advantage of this rare prospect.
