Don’t miss out! Learn how animals perceive the world in ways that are hidden from the naked human eye. Our uncovered video incorporates UV light, showing us their unique perspective and the beautiful colors they see. A new camera system and software package capture and display videos that reveal the rich color world of animals.

Uncover the secret world of animal vision. Different from human eyes, animals including bees, reindeer, and some birds can see ultraviolet (UV) light that human eyes cannot perceive. Our new camera system can reconstruct the colors that animals see, helping us appreciate, preserve, and understand their view of the natural world around us.
Multispectral photography has many potential applications including examining topical effects, for example, tracking UV-absorbing urine tracks or evaluating cosmetics. Find out how this technology is changing the way we look at products and techniques that benefit animals and humans.
“As sensory ecologists, we are interested in how animals perceive colors in nature. Traditional techniques for measuring these colors often told only part of the story,” Daniel Hanley, a study co-author and sensory ecologist at George Mason University, tells PopSci. “The scientific community lacked adequate tools for studying colors in motion.
