Donald Trump continues to use twisted descriptions of himself against those who point out his transgressions like a malicious, boastful schoolboy. His fellow Republicans follow the leader by projecting their own psychopathies on the truth-tellers.
The pejorative “Trump crime family,” describing decades of phony charitable and educational scams, becomes mock-outraged references to the “Biden Crime Family.”
He latches onto any criticisms to use as invective against his political opponents. Trump is even trying to turn the tables on those who warn that he is an obvious threat to our democracy.
He continues to claim that he is protecting all of us from “Joe Biden’s war on democracy” despite his own actions and statements that threaten the fabric of our nation.
As a warning to all non-faux patriots, Trump’s exhortation to insurrection, “Fight like hell or you won’t have a country,” turns out to be a plea to preserve the Constitution, political norms, the rule of law, and freedom of the press.
Like a pre-teen, Trump taunts his critics, repeating something over and over, knowing that an amazing number of people will come to believe it. Unfortunately, many people choose to believe what they want to hear and disregard the rest.
Trump’s rhetoric closely follows the form of Nazi propaganda, and it has been amazingly successful in the United States.
Trump uses terms like “fascist” against his critics as a way to deflect from the real issues at hand.
