Big News Alert! Iron Banner ornaments are back in Destiny 2, and I couldn’t be more excited! After five years, Bungie has answered our prayers and brought back these awesome ornaments that were previously only available for a short time in year 1. As someone who has become a die-hard Iron Banner fan over the years, this is a game-changer for me. Time to suit up and earn these amazing new ornaments!

But wait, there’s a catch. As thrilled as I am about the return of Iron Banner ornaments, it’s also a harsh reminder of how frustrating the transmog system in Destiny 2 can be. Yes, these are “ornaments,” but the process to acquire them is no walk in the park. First, you have to earn each piece with three Iron Engrams, and then spend transmog currency to unlock each individual piece. That’s a lot of hoops to jump through!

The issue here isn’t just with Iron Banner, it’s with the transmog system as a whole. It’s a flawed process compared to other games and highlights Destiny 2’s tendency to monetize every aspect of the game. It’s about time for a major overhaul of this system, which feels more like a grind than a fun feature.

For those wondering, players can earn transmog currency by completing bounties every season. You need to complete 10 bounties, and that will grant you enough currency to transmog two full sets of armor. However, the grind to complete these bounties is no joke. It can be 70 Gambit matches or 40 strikes. To speed things up, you can do raid or dungeon checkpoints, but it still feels like an unnecessary obstacle in a game that already has plenty of challenges. And the fact that there’s a cap of 10 bounties per season means there will always be sets you can’t transmog, no matter how much you grind.

But wait, there’s more. There’s also a paid transmog system that allows you to bypass the cap and the grind. This means spending money to transmog armor sets you have already earned. It costs $10 to transmog a set of armor, which can really add up if you have multiple sets to transmog. It’s a frustrating reality for players who just want to enjoy the game without feeling pressured to spend extra money.
