Thunder to Release Two New Live Albums, Including Planet Rock Radio Christmas Party Concert

Thunder, a prominent British hard rock band, is set to release two previously unreleased live albums on January 26, 2024, through earMUSIC. One of these albums, “Live At Islington Academy,” showcases the band from South London during the tour cycle for their eighth studio album, ‘Robert Johnson’s Tombstone.’ After completing an extensive UK tour to promote the album, Thunder was approached by Planet Rock Radio for a live set performance at the station’s inaugural Christmas party. Only 800 lucky fans had the opportunity to witness Thunder’s electrifying performance at the Planet Rock Christmas party on December 19, 2006. The event, organized by Rob Birnie and Mark Jeeves, featured a memorable setlist of classic hits such as ‘River Of Pain,’ ‘Low Life In High Places,’ ‘You Can’t Keep A Good Man Down,’ ‘Love Walked In,’ ‘Backstreet Symphony,’ and ‘I Love You More Than Rock ‘N’ Roll,’ capped off by an energetic encore of the hit single ‘Dirty Love.’

According to lead singer Danny Bowes, the audience was taken by surprise when Thunder took the stage at the Christmas party, creating a memorable and exhilarating atmosphere. The second live album, “Live At Leeds,” was recorded nine years later on March 3, 2015, as part of a three-date tour in support of ‘Wonder Days,’ considered one of Thunder’s finest studio albums. The tour held special significance as it marked guitarist Ben Matthews’ public return following his recovery from throat cancer, resulting in emotional performances for both the band and the audience.

The show at the First Direct Arena in Leeds was particularly poignant, with guitarist Luke Morley recalling the heartfelt reaction from the crowd upon Matthews’ return. Reflecting on Thunder’s early career as “very fulfilling,” Morley recounts the emotional experience of that night. The concert featured a setlist of 16 songs, including a string of their most beloved hits.
