Is TikTok moving towards a new display format?
It appears that after popularizing full-screen vertical videos, TikTok is now encouraging creators to shoot horizontally instead, according to recent screenshots shared by some users. Check out the example posted by Jules Terpak (and shared by Matt Navarra) here:

Landscape videos that are over 1 minute in length are the ones eligible to receive increased views, as mentioned by TikTok.
Any videos meeting the stated requirements will be boosted for 72 hours in the app, which could be a significant posting incentive for TikTok creators wanting more exposure. This shift is an odd one, given that vertical video is TikTok’s core offering and the popularity of that format has led to significant growth in video engagement across other apps.
But this is likely not a departure from its core format – rather, TikTok’s move to expand its content types in order to attract more users and keep things interesting. Maybe this is part of a broader growth mix as TikTok prepares for new trends and opportunities. We’ll update this post if/when we hear more.
