Every year, as the first snowflakes fall in the Alps, the mountain towns welcome winter visitors with a host of sleek new hotels. This year is no different, with upscale brands like COMO Hotels and Resorts bringing their beach-chic ethos to the Italian Alps with COMO Alpina Dolomites, and Grace Hotels introducing St Moritz’s first luxury opening in over 50 years with the Grace La Margna. As a sleek and modern addition to the former art nouveau hotel La Margna, the stylish Swiss hotel breathes new life into the area, following a trend for high-profile revamps seen across the Alps this season. Here’s a look at the six best new openings, many of which revitalize former hotel landmarks.
1. Six Senses, Crans-Montana
The first Swiss opening for the luxury spa hotel chain offers 78 rooms on forested slopes above the Cry d’Er gondola, many with large balconies, local larch and oak decor, huge beds, and freestanding baths. The indoor pool features a suspended ceiling of timber stakes reaching down towards the water. The outdoor infinity swimming pool is heated all winter and overlooks a greenhouse full of trees with a suspension bridge. Wild Cabin brasserie focuses on modern Swiss cuisine, while Byakko serves food influenced by the Japanese Alps. Doubles from €788 (£679), B&B.
2. Seven Alpina, Klosters
The Alpina, now part of the boutique Seven group, reopens in December after 30 years with 52 rooms decked out in contemporary design hotel style. The spa and pool have been revitalized, the lounge has an open fire, and there are two restaurants, a bar, and an apres-ski terrace. Doubles from €280 (£250), B&B.
3. Voulez Vous, Val Thorens
The luxurious Koh-l Nor hotel in the Trois Vallées has been reborn as Voulez Vous by the Les Etincelles group. The makeover brings new restaurants — including Il Savoia, an Italian-Savoyard blend. Cocktails and dance evenings are promised, and it’s still ski in, ski out, set on the central Plein Sud piste. Doubles from €256 (£220) B&B (minimum stay three nights).
3. HENRI Country House, Kitzbühel
The latest from the German brand is a cosy classic chalet with a contemporary edge.
