Discovering the Impact of “Night Country” on True Detective Streaming
The release of the penultimate episode of “Night Country” resulted in a 15% increase in streaming viewership for the popular HBO crime drama, “True Detective.”
Nielsen data revealed that during the week of Feb. 5-11, “True Detective” accumulated 745 million viewing minutes on Max, marking a significant surge from the previous week where it logged 648 million viewing minutes. This propelled the series from the 10th spot to the fifth most-streamed show for the week.
Despite this impressive performance, “True Detective” fell short of surpassing Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” which garnered 765 million viewing minutes, securing the fourth spot on the most-streamed list. Additionally, “Grey’s Anatomy” claimed third place with 860 million viewing minutes on Netflix, while “Bluey” and “Young Sheldon” rivaled for the top spots with 1.14 billion and 1.35 billion viewing minutes, respectively.
In comparison, “True Detective” surpassed Netflix’s “Griselda” and “Royal Pains,” which landed in sixth and seventh place respectively on the most-streamed list. Further down the rankings were “The Big Bang Theory” and “NCIS” with 690 million and 672 million viewing minutes, respectively, and “Suits” maintained the 10th position with 652 viewing minutes.
While “True Detective” secured the fifth spot on the overall most-streamed shows list, it claimed the fourth spot on the acquired series list, trailing behind “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Bluey,” and “Young Sheldon.”
On another note, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” emerged as the most-watched original streaming series for the week. Following closely behind were “Griselda,” Paramount+’s “Halo,” and Prime Video’s “Reacher” with varying viewing minutes.
