Earlier today, GamerLegion emerged victorious on the stage at DreamHack Hannover, claiming the first major win in Tarkov Arena’s new esports ecosystem. From today, Tarkov Arena will go live for players who have pre-ordered the game or who own the ‘Edge of Darkness’ edition of Escape From Tarkov. This marks an exhilarating time for Tarkov fans worldwide. GamerLegion made history, walking away with a €50,000 prize.
Over three days, the ‘Head Eyes Showdown’ played out, giving many their first look at Tarkov Arena. It’s a far cry from the extraction shooter experience offered by Escape From Tarkov, which has been around since 2016. In Tarkov Arena, players are tasked with fighting through session-based, traditional multiplayer rounds complete with classes, pre-determined loadouts, and much smaller maps.
GamerLegion On Top

GamerLegion was victorious at the first Tarkov Arena tournament
The tournament was incredibly entertaining from start to finish. At its peak, around 60,000 users were watching the gameplay unfold on Twitch. This is a huge number, especially considering Tarkov Arena hadn’t been released when the tournament went live. It’s a true testament to the work that Battlestate Games has put into establishing this fledgling esports ecosystem for Tarkov. It has long been seen as an unwelcoming, hyper-challenging game that casual gamers avoid, but now it’s gaining attention and excitement.
Virtus.pro was considered a favorite going into the event and appeared to be destined for victory. The team had a perfect record through the group stage and was nearly unstoppable. However, the other shining star in the tournament was GamerLegion. In the Playoff round, Acend fell at the first post, and GamerLegion was sent crashing down into the lower bracket by Virtus. However, the squad faced off against Virtus.pro once again in the Grand Final, securing revenge and the €50,000 prize in the first-ever Tarkov Arena tournament.
A special mention must be made to GamerLegion’s Cocao, who secured Tarkov Arena’s first ace!
Tarkov’s Esports Scene
There’s a lot of potential in Tarkov’s esports scene. It has traditional first-person shooter mechanics but stands apart with unique elements. For instance, in Tarkov Arena, players can heal, use buffs, equip armor, and make use of a diverse array of weapons. Throughout the tournament, players switched between DMRs, SMGs, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and handguns, making it a much more dynamic experience. It’s a hardcore game, with no indicators above the characters’ heads, creating a thrilling and unpredictable environment.
