Watch: Firefighters rescue 25 million bees in broken-down semi

May 18 (UPI) — Firefighters in Utah came to the rescue of about 25 million bees in a broken-down semi truck amid high heat.

The Unified Fire Authority said crews from Millcreek were called into action when the truck broke down in Parleys Canyon.

“While mechanics worked on the truck, firefighters carefully used a hose to mist the trailer and keep the bees cool, calm and safe in the heat,” the Unified Fire Authority said on social media.

The post said the intense heat put the bees “at risk of dying if the truck stayed parked in the sun for too long, as there wouldn’t be a cool breeze from the truck moving along the highway.”

The truck was carrying 480 hives that each contained 40,000-60,000 honey bees.

“We’re happy to report that no firefighters were stung during the operation,” officials wrote.
