When one of the attendees of Google’s K&I Black Summit event finally looked through their merchandise, they made a shocking discovery. The Google-branded notebook they received at the event featured a noteworthy slogan on the inside that seemed to be giving off the wrong message. Let’s take a closer look.

The notebook’s slogan, “I was just cotton the moment, but I came back to take your notes,” seemed to be an unintentional yet awkward oversight from Google. The company, already under scrutiny for its support of Black employees, received a lot of attention when this blunder came to light. The fact that the notebooks were handed out to an audience of Black people only added to the discomfort.
A Google spokesperson confirmed that the company gave out the notebooks during the event, but claimed that the notebooks were purchased through a third-party vendor and that the cotton line was not added by Google. The awkward oversight was apparent, and many wondered how the attendees would perceive such a mistake.
