Are you keeping promises to your children no matter what? A dad turned to Reddit seeking advice on whether he was right to deny a car to his disrespectful and entitled son.
This father shared his problem:
I (49M) have four kids, twin boys (both 27), one girl (25F), and another son (21M). This post is about my youngest son, Jack. I kept my promises for all my kids, except Jack and here’s why.
1. Jack’s roommate exploited a co-signed lease, stopped paying rent, and I had to cover it for months. Jack just brushed me off, and we ended up paying until the issue was resolved.

2. Jack has an incredibly rude and entitled attitude, only contacting us for money and behaving poorly when at home.
3. When his mother was in the hospital, Jack refused to visit and treated the family poorly on his arrival.
I am hesitant to buy Jack a car as I already paid $180k for his college education due to his wasteful behavior. Jack is upset and his grandparents are calling me, saying that I am playing favorites because I bought everyone else a car except him.

Redditors quickly understood where the poster was coming from.
- “If I were being petty, I’d buy a junker used car for him.”
