Huawei seems to be gearing up for the release of a new fitness tracker as part of its popular ‘Band’ lineup. After introducing the Band 8 last April, initially in China before its swift global debut less than two weeks later, the company appears to be continuing the trend with the anticipated Band 9.
Although Huawei has not confirmed the existence of the Band 9, reports from sources like Lowyat have pointed to a recent submission to the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) that mentions the upcoming wearable device and its model number. While a SIRIM certification does not guarantee a product’s release, it does signal progress in the final stages of a device’s development.
According to the SIRIM listing, the ‘Huawei Band 9’ is categorized as a ‘watch’, a label that has also been used for the Watch Buds product, a combination of a smartwatch and earbuds. Additionally, the documentation reveals that Huawei is working on the Band 9 under the model number ‘KIM-B19’. Specific details such as the release date and distinguishing features from previous models remain undisclosed at this time.
