There has been some backlash on social media regarding the red and yellow backdrop at Vanity Fair’s 2024 Oscar Party. Numerous users on X have expressed their disapproval, comparing the colors to those of the McDonald’s fast-food chain.
A plethora of celebrities graced the carpet at the prestigious magazine’s Academy Awards afterparty. Attendees included the likes of Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Sofia Vergara, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez.
Unlike the subdued color schemes of previous years, such as 2023’s blue-and-silver theme, this year’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party showcased much brighter hues reminiscent of McDonald’s fries packaging.
One X user, @kenobisms, commented, “It looks like a big McDonald’s.”
Another user, @Tthasage, agreed, stating, “Why did Vanity Fair after party choose this red carpet set up? It’s so ugly and reminds me of McDonalds, clashing with the clothes.”
Yet another user on X remarked, “Why does the Vanity Fair after party carpet look like McDonald’s? I’m crying, what happened.”
The criticism of Vanity Fair’s Oscars Party backdrop comes following feedback from the 2023 Emmy Awards earlier this year. Chrissy Teigen took to Instagram to express her desire for award shows to have more appealing step and repeats, while many social media users criticized the large lettering at the event.

Choosing suitable colors for awards show carpets and red carpets is a challenging task. At the previous year’s Oscars, organizers went with a pale beige “champagne” carpet, which did not sit well with everyone. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis humorously tweeted about her beige dress blending into the carpet color scheme.
THR has reached out to Vanity Fair for a statement regarding the color choices for this year’s Oscar Party backdrop.
