Discord has unveiled an exciting overhaul of its mobile app, prioritizing messaging and incorporating a variety of user-requested improvements.
The redesigned app has been revamped to cater to on-the-go use, delivering a more focused mobile Discord experience while streamlining the platform’s array of social features.
Discord Group Product Manager Francesco Polizzi explained, “[In 2015] our focus was on building great products for people who play games on PC, with mobile serving as a companion app for when you were AFK. Over time, the amount of *stuff* that Discord can do has grown exponentially.”
With the latest changes, Discord has replaced its old navigation buttons with new tabs for Servers, Messages, Notifications, and user profiles. The app has undergone a significant visual transformation, offering a more organized and visually stimulating experience for users.
The messaging section of the app has been reimagined, providing a centralized location for DMs and group DMs while also incorporating real-time status updates. Additionally, users can now favorite specific DM or group DM threads, enhancing the overall messaging experience.
The update also brings a cleaner and more efficient design for displaying channel and message thread information. Moreover, the search feature has been enhanced to deliver more comprehensive results for messages, attachments, and files.
Visually, the app has received a makeover, with improvements to profile pages, image and video sharing, and video and voice calls. Plus, users can now enjoy a sleek night mode and improved app performance.
