Exciting news for 49ers fans – Deebo Samuel is set to play Sunday against the Lions. The big question is, how much playing time can he handle and how much contact can he take?
Samuel, however, is not worried about protecting his injured left shoulder.
“I ain’t protecting nothing,” said Samuel on Friday, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com.
Samuel did play a role in Saturday’s game against the Packers before once again having to leave due to a hit to the same shoulder. However, medical testing on Sunday revealed it to be a deep bruise, not a fracture.
Despite a week in the training room, Samuel was a full participant in Friday’s practice and is ready to take the field on Sunday.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said “it’s huge” to have Samuel back. Just how huge? The 49ers averaged 7.1 yards per play with Samuel and 5.7 yards per play without him this season.
