Welcome to Portugal! The Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship is here, and the fourth-grade students in Valpaços are getting in on the action. These students recently took part in an educational event focused on environmental awareness, circular economy, social inclusion, and the importance of preserving ecosystems.
Together with the Valpaços Municipality, local schools, and the National Republican Guard (GNR), the “Planting for the Future in Valpaços” initiative made a positive impact on these young students. As part of Prime Stadium’s Sustainability program and integrated into the EnduroGP World Championship, the event aimed to raise environmental awareness and promote civic responsibility among the younger generation.
The action started with the distribution of T-shirts to all fourth-grade students, accompanied by a clear message: wear them now, pass them on later, and recycle them when they’re worn out. Next, the students had the chance to chat with Joana Gonçalves, a professional enduro rider. The students were captivated by Joana’s stories and experiences, learning about determination and the role of sports in personal development.
After the inspiring dialogue, the students headed to their future middle school to plant trees of native species, committing to caring for them over the next two academic years. This hands-on experience allows the children to develop a lasting connection with the environment.
The morning concluded with a special collaboration with the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD). The children released two wild owls, supporting UTAD’s bird rehabilitation program and highlighting the importance of preserving ecosystems.
“Planting for the Future in Valpaços” was an unforgettable morning that will undoubtedly stay with these children for many years to come.
