NFE’s first Fast LNG (FLNG) asset, FLNG 1 – comprising three repurposed jack-up rigs off the coast of Altamira – has had its first full LNG cargo fully loaded onto the Energos Princess, which has set sail for Europe. This comes less than two months after completing the first cargo load and sail operation.

“This is a significant milestone for our Fast LNG installation. Natural gas and power supply are critical components of a sustainable, affordable, and cleaner energy system and we’re excited to be able to provide our own gas supply to the world markets and our customers,” said Wes Edens, Chairman and CEO of New Fortress Energy.

Boasting a capacity of 1.4 million tons per annum (mtpa), the FLNG 1 asset  is described as “the fastest large-scale LNG project ever developed.” It is expected to help create a new FLNG hub off the east coast of Mexico.

The project recently received approval from the United States Department of Energy (DOE) to export LNG from the inaugural installation to non-free trade agreement countries for a term of five years, and secured a loan to build the second installation, FLNG 2. The construction works for the second unit are slated to be completed in the first half of 2026.
