Investigators are pursuing critical DNA evidence from a glove found near the abduction site of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, as her daughter Savannah Guthrie makes a public plea for her safe return.
The search for Nancy Guthrie and her captor entered its third week Monday as investigators awaited DNA results from a glove and as Guthrie’s daughter, NBC host Savannah Guthrie, pleaded with the kidnapper to “do the right thing.”
The glove was found some two miles from the 84-year-old Guthrie’s home and has quickly become a focus for investigators, who say it was discovered in a roadside field and appears to match the style of gloves worn by a masked individual captured on doorbell video near her front door.

The FBI received preliminary DNA results from the glove Feb. 14 and is awaiting final confirmation before entering the unknown male profile into CODIS, the FBI’s national DNA database that allows investigators to compare crime-scene DNA with profiles already on file and – potentially – identify a suspect. The FBI said investigators collected about 16 gloves near the home, but most belonged to searchers. The glove in question did not.
“We think we’re getting closer,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC.
Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Tucson-area home in the early morning hours of Feb. 1, when investigators believe an armed, masked intruder – seen on doorbell footage – abducted her. She was reported missing later that morning after she failed to arrive at a friend’s house to watch a virtual church service.
“It’s been two weeks since our mom was taken, and I just wanted to come on and say that we still have hope and we still believe,” Savannah Guthrie said Sunday in a new Instagram video. “And I wanted to say to whoever has her or knows where she is – that it’s never too late, and you’re not lost or alone, and it is never too late to do the right thing.”

The FBI last week released a description of the suspect, saying he is approximately 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 with a “medium build” and was wearing a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack, which is sold exclusively at Walmart.
Law enforcement officials believe the suspect’s mask and clothing also were purchased at Walmart, CBS News reported. Investigators are examining security footage from local Walmarts.
Meanwhile, investigators also have used aircraft and drones equipped with specialized detection technology in an attempt to locate any traceable signal from Nancy Guthrie’s pacemaker.
