Helix Energy Solutions Group Secures Contract with ESSO Offshore Nigeria

Helix Energy Solutions Group, based in the United States, has been awarded a contract by Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (ESSO) for deepwater well intervention in a project situated approximately 97 kilometers off the coast of Nigeria.

Commencement of Activities
The project in the Erha and Usan fields is scheduled to kick off in September 2024 utilizing the Q4000 DP3 riser-based semi-submersible well intervention vessel, which will remain in Nigeria through 2025.
Scope of Work
Helix will deliver a 10k intervention riser system (IRS), remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), project management, and engineering services to provide comprehensive well intervention services covering production enhancement to plug and abandonment. These operations will be conducted in water depths ranging from 700 to 1,500 meters.

Scotty Sparks, Helix’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, expressed excitement about the contract, stating, “We are pleased to announce this contract for the Q4000. We are eager to strengthen our relationship with Esso and to further establish our presence as the leader for well intervention services in West Africa.”
Capabilities of the Q4000
The Q4000 functions as an offshore platform capable of undertaking various tasks, including subsea well intervention, field and well decommissioning, subsea equipment installation and recovery, well testing, and emergency well containment.
Other Recent Developments
Helix Energy Solutions recently secured an extension of its decommissioning contract with Trident Energy do Brasil, with rates aligning with the improved well intervention market. The 12-month extension is set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024, directly following the current contract.
