Samsung Unveils 2024 Midrange Phone Lineup
Samsung recently introduced its latest midrange phone lineup for 2024, offering a combination of competitive specs and features at more affordable prices compared to its flagship models. The Galaxy A55 and A35 come with 6.6-inch Super AMOLED displays, featuring Knox Vault for enhanced security, a feature previously exclusive to the Galaxy S21.
Display and Performance Upgrades
Both phones, running on Android 14, boast FHD+ displays with a resolution of 2220×1080 and 374 pixels per inch, along with variable refresh rates up to 120Hz. The inclusion of Samsung’s Vision Booster technology, which adjusts screen tones based on lighting conditions, enhances the overall viewing experience. The display size has been slightly increased from the previous A54 model to 6.6 inches.
Enhanced Processors and Storage Options
While official specifications did not reveal the processors, reports suggest the A55 is powered by an Exynos 1480 chipset, while the A35 uses the Exynos 1380. The A55 offers configurations of 8GB or 12GB of RAM, with storage options of 128GB or 256GB, and a microSD card slot. In comparison, the A35 features RAM configurations of 6GB or 8GB with the same storage options, excluding the microSD slot.
Improved Camera Capabilities
The primary difference between the two phones lies in the camera setup. Both models feature three rear cameras, including a 50MP main sensor and a 5MP macro lens. However, the A55 comes with a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, while the A35 sports an 8MP ultra-wide lens. Additionally, the A55 offers a higher resolution 32MP front-facing camera compared to the A35’s 13MP front shooter, with both devices supporting OIS and VDIS for stable imaging.
Innovative Features and Battery Life
When considering AI capabilities, the midrange phones lack the generative AI features found in Samsung’s premium S24 series. However, the A55 does incorporate “advanced AI Image Signal Processing (ISP)” for improved low-light photography. The devices include a 5,000mAh battery, promising up to two days of battery life depending on usage patterns.
Price and Availability
Official US pricing and launch dates are pending, but Samsung has revealed that the A55 will start at £439 (US$562) in the UK, while the A35 will be available from £339 ($434). Both models are set to launch in the UK on March 20, offering consumers a blend of performance, features, and affordability in the midrange smartphone segment.
