Morant, who was back in action after serving a 25-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the league, also tallied eight assists and six rebounds. He made 12-of-24 field goals in the 35 minutes he played.
Despite the Pelicans leading by as many as 24 points and entering the final quarter with a 10-point advantage, Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. combined for 28 points in the last frame to lead the Grizz to a stunning comeback.
Brandon Ingram led the Pelicans with 34 points, while Jonas Valančiūnas added a 22-point, 14-rebound double-double, and Zion Williamson scored 13 points.
The return of Morant is an incredibly positive development for the Grizzlies, who struggled to a 6-19 record in his absence. Morant displayed no signs of rust upon his return and showcased his explosive skillset throughout the game.
With Morant back in the lineup, there’s hope for a return trip to the postseason for the Grizzlies, who secured the No. 2 seed in each of the past two years.
For now, the focus is on collecting more wins. Up next is Morant’s 2023-24 home debut, which will take place on Thursday against Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers.
