Jasmine Jasudavicius despises the idea of causing harm to her opponents and struggles to turn off her compassion during fight week.
Her upcoming UFC 297 fight against Priscila Cachoeira became a bit easier for her after Cachoeira came in well over the weight limit, resulting in the fight taking place at 135 pounds instead of 125.
During the fight, when Jasmine had Priscila on the ground and was close to finishing her, a surge of emotions made her restrain herself: “You’re not taking this from me. And so I gave a little bit extra.”
That “extra” turned out to be a lot, with Jasudavicius landing 326 strikes to Cachoeira’s 26, resulting in a bloodied face and a fight uniform stained with blood.
Jasudavicius admitted, “I did try to finish her, I did get to a point where I was like, enough is enough. Turn your back, give me your neck. But I have to do the job in there. I don’t see her as a person. It’s like, this is my enemy, and I just have to keep going through this process until its finalized.”
Before the fight with Cachoeira, Jasudavicius wasn’t sure if she’d get to see her hard work through, especially when she received the news about her opponent’s weight issue from UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard.
As the fight was in jeopardy, she admitted to shedding a tear, knowing her dream hometown fight was in trouble. But with determination, she pushed through the uncertainty.
Following various catchweight proposals, and a visit to the UFC’s nutritionist, she found herself running into Cachoeira and her coach in the hotel hallways, pleading with them to agree to a 130-pound weight limit for the fight.
Despite the rollercoaster of emotions and negotiations, Jasudavicius faced the challenge head-on, demonstrating her resilience and determination.
