Jeremy Renner is spilling the beans on whether he’s ready to step back into his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He recently chatted with Entertainment Tonight about returning to the The Avengers series, over a year after his life-threatening snowplow incident on Jan. 1, 2023.
“I’m always up for it,” Renner shared. “I’m going to come back stronger, that’s a guarantee. I’ll be prepared.”
The Mayor of Kingstown star, who suffered 30 broken bones after being struck by a 14,300-pound snowcat at his residence in Reno, Nevada, also expressed gratitude for the support of his MCU colleagues.
“All those guys were by my side and have been by my side throughout this recovery, so… if they want me, I’m there for them,” he added. “It would be quite something.”
During the interview, Renner provided an update on his health and road to recovery.
“I’m doing about 90 percent of all the necessary activities… I hope to be running more in the next six months… I have set personal goals for myself. I will do whatever is required… whatever it takes to improve, to get stronger,” the The Hurt Locker actor mentioned. “This recovery is a one-way street. Health and wellness will be part of my life going forward. Recovery will be a lifelong journey, and I am excited for it. There’s always room for improvement, strength, happiness, and health, and that’s what I’m looking forward to.”
He added, “Honestly, it’s tough for me to dwell on the past. It’s challenging for me to think about the future. I focus on the present and the next step in front of me, as there is always another hurdle for me to overcome right now.”
Last month, Renner shared that he had resumed filming for his Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown, which commenced shooting its third season. “First day on set…feeling the nerves today,” he posted on Instagram back then. “Hoping that I can actually nail this for our production and, more importantly, for the fans.”
When discussing the tragic accident in the past, Renner revealed that he was trying to shield his nephew from the PistenBully when he got dragged underneath it.
In an interview with ABC News‘ Diane Sawyer in April 2023, the actor disclosed that he had to undergo extensive surgical procedures, including rebuilding his rib cage with metal, inserting metal plates in his face to support his eye socket, and placing titanium rods in one of his legs. It was a lengthy journey to recovery for him, and he kept his fans informed with regular updates on social media throughout the year.
