Kanye West Requests Music Industry to Recognize Him as ‘Ye’

Kanye West has expressed his desire for prominent figures in the music industry to acknowledge his choice to be known as ‘Ye’ after legally changing his name, according to sources at TMZ.
In a document obtained by TMZ, Kanye’s chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, sends a firm message to major entities in the music industry, such as streaming services, publishers, lyric websites, and others, insisting that the artist should now be identified as Ye.
According to Milo, Kanye did not make the decision to alter his name lightly, recognizing that he is giving up the brand recognition associated with the name ‘Kanye West.’ Despite this, the Grammy-winning artist views ‘Kanye West’ as a “slave name” and is committed to removing it from all platforms.
Milo further emphasizes, “Ye is a Black man in America who deserves the freedom to determine his own identity, just like anyone else.”
It’s important to note that Kanye officially changed his name to Ye in October 2021. After obtaining approval from a judge to adopt his longstanding nickname as his legal name, Kanye solidified this transition, citing its significance in Biblical terms during a discussion with radio host Big Boy in 2018, even though the claim about its frequency in the Bible was inaccurate.
Although Kanye’s decision to adopt the name ‘Ye’ sets him apart, he is not the only artist to undergo a name change in the industry. Notable figures like Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Prince, Bow Wow, and Kesha have also revamped their public personas over the years.
The question now remains whether the music industry will comply with Ye’s directive. Will they conform to Ye’s preferences, or will they choose to maintain the status quo? Only time will tell.
