After a two-year absence from Spotify due to a boycott, Neil Young has decided to make a comeback to the platform. The reason behind this decision is the fact that Joe Rogan is no longer the only exclusive content creator on Spotify.

Young had previously removed his music from Spotify because of the spread of misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. However, now that the podcast is available on every platform, Young sees no reason to continue his protest. In a statement on his website, Young expressed his thoughts, saying, “Spotify, the leading platform for low-quality music streaming in the world, will once again be home to my music.”

Addressing the presence of the same disinformation podcasts on Apple and Amazon music services, Young explained his decision to return to Spotify. He stated, “I cannot simply abandon Apple and Amazon like I did Spotify, as there would be very limited streaming options available for my music enthusiasts. Therefore, I have decided to come back to Spotify.”

In his message to fans, Neil Young expressed his hope that his return to Spotify will bring about an improvement in sound quality. He added, “I trust that all the millions of Spotify users will enjoy my songs! They will now have access to all my music except for the full sound quality that we originally intended.”

“I encourage Spotify to embrace high-resolution audio as a solution and provide all users with top-notch music streaming services. Spotify, you are capable of achieving greatness in every aspect. With your vast music library and loyal listeners, you have the potential to lead the industry. Consider introducing a limited high-resolution audio tier and expanding from there!”

Although Neil Young’s suggestion aligns with Spotify’s previous hints about introducing a higher resolution audio tier, the platform has yet to make any significant changes. Earlier considerations of a Spotify HiFi tier were abandoned following Apple Music’s incorporation of spatial audio as a standard feature. Recent speculations about a potential Spotify Supremium tier have emerged, but nothing concrete has materialized. Instead, Spotify seems more focused on rivaling Audible’s dominance in the audiobook market rather than prioritizing high-resolution music streaming for its users.
