Selena Gomez Slays with ‘Black Cherry’ Emmys Manicure for Goth-Glam Look

After debuting jet-black nails at the Golden Globes, the Only Murders in the Building star wowed everyone with another incredible moody mani at the 2024 Emmys, showing that goth glam is here to stay.

The talented celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik used PLA Nails’ You Can’t Tell Anyone polish to create the custom “black cherry” look for Gomez. This rich, deep purple eggplant shade matched perfectly with her custom Oscar de la Renta gown and vampy plum lip.

Bachik offered insight into the process, saying, “We started off our look with a meticulous manicure, using the Tweezerman Rose Gold Manicure Set.” He continued, “Shape was super important today. We’re doing a custom dark color and wanted to pair with a strong natural oval-shaped nail to complement the pattern in the dress. By holding the smooth side of my Tweezerman ProFile at about a 45-degree angle while filing from side to center, it will automatically create that perfect shape.”

Next, Bachik applied a super-thin layer of PLA’s Black Gel Liner before using the brand’s You Can’t Tell Anyone #190 for an absolutely stunning effect.

To create the deep cherry effect, Bachik took dipped a small gel brush red chrome powder. He explained, “Starting down the center of the nail, I mixed the chrome into the wet gel polish and blended it out to the sides.”

To finish, Bachik applied a thick coat of the PLA Non Wipe Top Coat for depth and high-gloss shine. “This gives us a deep, rich cherry red that shimmers in the light just like car paint,” he says.
