The Incredible Journey of EGOT Winners: From Audrey Hepburn to Viola Davis

Sir Elton John joins the EGOT club as the 19th person to achieve this prestigious status in entertainment. His Disney+ concert film won an Emmy at the 2024 awards ceremony, solidifying his place in EGOT history. For those not familiar with the EGOT, it is an elite group of individuals who have earned an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony award.

Other notable achievers in recent years include Viola Davis, who became the 18th EGOT recipient with a Grammy for best audio book, narration, and storytelling recording with her memoir, Finding Me, and Jennifer Hudson who became the 17th person to join this exclusive club after receiving a Tony Award for her work as a producer on the best musical winner A Strange Loop.

Prolific composer Alan Menken, known for his extensive work with Disney, became the 16th member of the EGOT club when he took home a Daytime Emmy in 2020 for best original song in a children’s, young adult, or animated program for Disney Channel’s Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. Among the other illustrious EGOT recipients is John Legend, who in 2018 became the youngest and first Black male to join the exclusive club after winning an Emmy for his work on NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live.

It’s a rare feat to achieve EGOT status, with only a select group of actors, writers, producers, composers, and singers having been able to accomplish this incredible milestone. From icons like Audrey Hepburn to living legend Whoopi Goldberg, these performers are part of an elite group of EGOTs.
