Saturday Night Live is causing a stir after Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley made a surprise appearance on Saturday night.
During the cold open, Haley challenged James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump, asking, “Why won’t you debate Nikki Haley?”
Trump responded, “Oh my God. It’s her, the woman who was in charge of security on Jan. 6. It’s Nancy Pelosi for the 1,000th time.”
Ayo Edebiri then joined the scene and posed a pointed question to Haley: “I was just curious, what would you say was the main cause of the Civil War? And do you think it starts with an S and ends with ‘lavery’?”
Haley admitted, “Yeah, I probably should have said that the first time.”
Edebiri’s inquiry referenced a controversial town hall exchange with Haley in December 2023 where she avoided mentioning slavery as a cause of the Civil War, sparking criticism on social media.
NBC has remained tight-lipped, but sources suggest that the network will address any equal time requirements for other presidential candidates from both parties.
Edebiri made her hosting debut on the show alongside musical guest Jennifer Lopez.
