Collaboration to Establish India’s First 12-Inch Wafer Fab

Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) has recently announced its partnership with Tata Electronics to construct India’s inaugural 12-inch wafer fab in Dholera, Gujarat. The commencement of fab construction is scheduled for later this year, anticipating the creation of over 20,000 local job opportunities.

Initiating India’s Semiconductor Endeavor

A subsidiary of the prestigious Tata Sons Group, Tata Electronics is gearing up to venture into semiconductor production with the aid of PSMC. The company’s objectives include the manufacturing of power management ICs, display driver ICs, microcontrollers, and high-performance computing logic for diverse industries such as automotive, computing, data storage, wireless communications, and artificial intelligence.

Leadership Remarks on Landmark Achievement

N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons Group, emphasized the institution’s historical precedence in various industrial sectors, marking its entry into semiconductor fabrication as another milestone. Leveraging government support from both the Indian central and Gujarat state administrations, Tata Sons Group aims to not only establish an international semiconductor industry hub but also provide advanced employment prospects for the nation’s youth.

Strategic Partnership Amid Global Realignment

Frank Huang, Chairman of PSMC, acknowledged Tata Sons Group’s significant stature nationally and internationally. With India’s vast population and thriving domestic market, the collaboration between PSMC and Tata Sons Group arrives amidst the ongoing restructuring of high-tech supply chains worldwide.

Strategic Expansion for Tata Electronics

Tata Electronics CEO Randhir Thakur outlined the forthcoming plans for the Dholera facility, expressing the company’s intent to leverage the partnership with PSMC to broaden its technological footprint and foster synergy among its manufacturing ventures. The goal of “Made in India” will be pivotal in catering to global clientele, meeting local demands, and fortifying the global supply chain.
