Getting a close shave can sometimes backfire. If you’re a man with tightly curled hair or have skin of color, trimming or shaving too closely can lead to ingrown hairs that cause inflammation and infection. Mayo Clinic dermatologist, Dr. Dawn Davis, explains that these ingrown hairs can result in acne-like bumps or scar tissue bumps along the beard area, mustache area, or back of the neck.
