Exciting Matchup: Chicago Bulls v San Antonio Spurs
Despite the Spurs’ recent struggles – losing 16 games in a row – Victor Wembanyama is proving that he can meet the high expectations placed on him.
His most recent standout performance saw Wembanyama surpassing Dwight Howard to become the youngest player in NBA history to achieve a 20 point/20 rebound night, scoring 21 points and 20 rebounds against the Bulls.
At only 19 years and 338 days old, Victor Wembanyama has made NBA history by recording a 20-point, 20-rebound game, surpassing Dwight Howard who achieved this at 19 years and 342 days old on 11/15/2005 (source).
Wembanyama is currently averaging 19 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game for the season. Despite being on a team with little support and an experimental point guard in Jeremy Sochan, Wembanyama is finding his stride and discovering how he can make an impact in the NBA.
It seems almost certain that Wembanyama will be named to the All-Rookie First Team at the end of the season, although he faces stiff competition from Chet Holmgren for the Rookie of the Year title. Given the challenges facing the Spurs, Wembanyama’s performance has exceeded expectations. The big question now is how he and the team will continue to evolve and develop in the coming years.
