San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 28-16 on Sunday, and the Green Bay Packers’ loss to the New York Giants on Monday night locked in the 49ers’ spot in the playoffs.
As Week 14 approached, both the 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys had the chance to clinch a playoff berth, and Kyle Shanahan’s team became the first to do it this season. This marks San Francisco’s third-straight postseason, its longest streak since Jim Harbaugh led the team to three straight from 2011 to 2013.
The 49ers are now aiming to secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Both the 49ers and the Cowboys are currently tied in first place with a 10-3 record.
Building on last season’s success, the 49ers won their wildcard game against the Seattle Seahawks before beating the Cowboys in the divisional round. Although they fell short in the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles, they are motivated to go all the way this time.
Following a three-game losing streak in October, the 49ers have since won their last five games, gaining momentum as they head into the final stretch of the season. The team will close out the year with games against the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Washington Commanders, and the Rams.
The expectations are high for San Francisco heading into the postseason. Now, Shanahan is focusing on leading the 49ers to their first Super Bowl win since 1995.
