It was a big night for LSU basketball.
The reigning NCAA champion Tigers set multiple program records in a 133-44 win over McNeese State. The point total is the highest in program history. The 89-point margin of victory is the largest in team history. They reached the tally while attempting just eight 3-point shots.
The Tigers not only dominated the Cowgirls, they exceeded all expectations for the game. After reaching a 30-12 lead in the first quarter, they completely poured it on in the second quarter and held McNeese State scoreless in a 30-0 quarter to take a 62-12 advantage into halftime. The second half was similarly dominant, with LSU outscoring McNeese State by 39 points in a historic victory. The 10 active Tigers players scored, six of them in double figures. Perhaps the most surprising performance came from first-year center Aalyah Del Rosario, who was the leading scorer with 27 points alongside 10 rebounds, one block, and one steal. Freshman guard Mikaylah Williams led the way in the starting lineup with 26 points alongside six assists and four steals.
All-American and reigning Final Four Most Outstanding Player Angel Reese also made an impact in the game, tallying 21 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, and three assists. As a team, the Tigers shot 57.7% from the field (45 of 78) and made 4 of 8 3-point shots. They also displayed dominance at the line, sinking 39 out of 52 free throws. On defense, they limited McNeese State to 29.1% shooting from the field and 23.8% from 3-point distance. They forced 36 turnovers and held a 52-27 rebounding edge.
LSU’s performance has been consistently impressive throughout the season. Following an opening-night loss, they displayed their dominance with a 112-55 win over Queen’s University and a 82-64 victory over No. 9 Virginia Tech. Despite a mysterious absence, Angel Reese returned to help lead LSU to continued success.
Whatever was happening behind the scenes hasn’t affected LSU’s performance on the court. Since the loss on its opening night, LSU has looked largely dominant in every game.
