Boost Your Brainpower with the Latest Findings from COSMOS Study on Multivitamins and Cognition

A new study has revealed some interesting information about the potential benefits of taking a daily multivitamin. This new data suggests that it may actually protect the aging brain. However, some experts remain skeptical about the study’s findings and believe further research is needed to back up these claims.

According to Chirag Vyas, MBBS, MPH, with the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, the study shows that taking a daily multivitamin containing essential micronutrients could help prevent memory loss and slow down cognitive aging. However, it’s important to note that they are not currently recommending multivitamin use, but the evidence is definitely compelling. These findings were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

The study, known as COSMOS, looked at both cocoa extract and a daily commercial multivitamin-mineral (MVM) supplement and were originally aimed at preventing cardiovascular disease and cancer. The results showed that neither the cocoa extract nor the MVM supplement had a significant impact on cancer or cardiovascular disease events. However, they did find that MVM supplementation was associated with improved global cognition, episodic memory, and executive function.
