DRAM and flash prices are on the rise, and in 2024, a sharp increase is expected, which could result in a significant increase in the prices of memory modules and SSDs.
It was noted by TrendForce that a decrease in prices for both commodities was seen for two consecutive years, which ended in 2021 and the company stated that the spot market for DRAM and flash saw increases. TrendForce anticipated that in the first quarter, a contract market for DRAM would experience price raises of a significant amount, ranging from 13 to 18 percent and 18 to 23 percent for NAND flash.
The report affirms that prices in both DRAM and SSDs are likely to increase. In addition, it is predicted that there will be lower gains in DRAM prices due to a higher percentage of DDR5 memory next year, ensuring a steadier increase in prices.
TrendForce also noted that memory manufacturing capacity remains below 100 percent utilization and if memory makers get too aggressive in increasing production, then supply will outpace demand and prices will fall. So there might be a possibility that the flash contract prices will drop in 2024.
