South Korean Actor Found Guilty of Indecent Assault
On Friday, a South Korean court declared actor Oh Yeong-su, known for his role in the popular series ‘Squid Game’, guilty of indecent assault. This ruling comes after a Golden Globe win in 2022 for his portrayal of the character Oh Il-nam on the hit Netflix show.
The allegations stem from an incident in 2017, where an unnamed victim accused Oh of kissing her cheek and making inappropriate sexual remarks in her room. As a result of the court’s decision, the 79-year-old actor received an eight-month suspended sentence and is required to complete 40 hours of sexual violence classes.
In light of these charges, Oh has been ousted from the upcoming second season of ‘Squid Game’ and removed from promotional materials by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. Despite the verdict, Oh has expressed intentions to appeal the ruling, as reported by the New York Times.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing allegations of misconduct, even among prominent figures in the entertainment industry. It underscores the ongoing efforts to combat sexual harassment and abuse, highlighting the need for accountability and justice in such matters.
