Buzzer Beater! Texas Upsets No. 9 Baylor with Tyrese Hunter’s Clutch Shot

What a game! Tyrese Hunter made an incredible game-winning layup at the buzzer to lead Texas to a thrilling 75-73 victory at home against No. 9 Baylor. This was a much-needed win for the Longhorns and it came in a tightly contested Big 12 showdown with 21 lead changes and 10 ties throughout the game. It’s safe to say that both teams left it all on the court.

In the first half, Texas shot an impressive 9 of 11 from 3-point range before relying on their defense to secure the win. Baylor struggled to score for over nine minutes until Jalen Bridges hit a clutch 3-pointer to tie the game with just 5.1 seconds left on the clock.

Coach Rodney Terry’s decision not to call a timeout after Bridges’ shot proved to be the winning move. The final play unfolded organically, and it was Hunter who delivered when it mattered most, receiving an inbound pass before making a beeline to the hoop and unleashing the game-winning shot. The Longhorns erupted in celebration as the buzzer sounded with Hunter’s shot in the net.

Hunter led the Longhorns with 21 points, while Disu and Abmas contributed 19 and 15 points, respectively. For Baylor, Walter led the charge with 22 points and Bridges added 17. They are set to face off again on March 4, but Saturday’s game marked the last home showdown between Texas and Baylor while they are still conference foes.

So, why did this win matter so much? According to CBS Sports Bracketology Expert Jerry Palm, Texas was on the outside looking in for the NCAA Tournament, and a loss would have made their situation even more precarious. After a shaky start in their league schedule, this win provides Texas with some much-needed momentum as they prepare to face some of the nation’s top teams in the coming weeks.

On the Baylor side, Walter had a standout performance, scoring a career-high 22 points in a Big 12 game. This was a marked improvement from his previous road games, and it’s a positive sign for Baylor’s future.
