Cris Cyborg’s Message to PFL Regarding Next Fight
Recently, Cris Cyborg, the reigning champion in the Bellator women’s featherweight division, used her social media platform to send a clear message to the Professional Fighters League (PFL). She emphasized the urgency of booking a highly anticipated champion vs. champion showdown between herself and Larissa Pacheco, the winner of the 2023 women’s featherweight title in PFL.
A Time-Pressed Request
In her tweet, Cyborg set a timeframe by counting down the months from January to June and tagged both PFL and Bellator MMA official accounts to bring attention to her request:
“Can I get a fight booked during the first half of 2024?! @PeteMurrayPFL @DonnDavisPFL. The longer I sit without an MMA fight, the less likely the fight with @lpacchec will happen in 2024 @srjsports. My last MMA fight was in October.”
Communication Concerns
When PFL initially announced their intention to host champion vs. champion fights, Cyborg expressed frustration with Donn Davis for presuming to plan her next bout without consulting her.
She stated, “As I said last night… Lots of plans being made and announced. I have not had any contact with anyone from the @PFLMMA since news of the purchase. One thing I will control is how my career finishes. Company culture and the way I am going to be treated as I finish the final fights of my career are a priority despite having two fighters call me out on fight night.”
Cyborg also highlighted the importance of her mental health and the significance of entering into a supportive work environment. She mentioned her upcoming boxing match on January 19th and hinted at her return to MMA once discussions with her team had concluded.
