Jon Jones has certainly earned his spot among the all-time greats in MMA history, so it’s no surprise that he is standing his ground.
Originally scheduled to face Stipe Miocic in the UFC 295 main event, Jones was forced off the card due to a torn pectoral muscle. As a result, the UFC moved forward with a interim title fight, Tom Aspinall vs. Sergei Pavlovich, and Aspinall emerged victorious after knocking out Pavlovich in the co-main event.
After the fight, Aspinall called for Jones to be stripped of the title, but Jones is clearly not on board with that idea.
He expressed his disagreement, stating: “I’ve faced the absolute toughest competition this world had to offer for 15 years now. Zero wins over legends, zero title defenses, and already thinking you can call the shots to Dana [White], that’s hilarious.”
The UFC CEO Dana White also shut down Aspinall’s idea, assuring fans that the plans for Jones to face Miocic are still on track for next year.
Jones sent a not-so-subtle reminder of his legendary status in his post on social media, emphasizing: “There’s ever only been one Jon Jones, never forget that.”
