Jordan Spieth Disqualified for Incorrect Scorecard at Genesis Invitational
On a disappointing note for Jordan Spieth, he was disqualified from the Genesis Invitational after signing the wrong score on the fourth hole. Spieth, a highly accomplished golfer with three major wins under his belt, mistakenly recorded a par on the 245-yard par-3 4th hole at Riviera Country Club when he actually made a bogey after missing a crucial 5-foot putt.
Spieth took full responsibility for the error, acknowledging it in a post on social media. Despite thinking he had followed all procedures to ensure the accuracy of his scorecard, the rules of the game caught up with him. This setback was particularly disheartening for Spieth, considering his fondness for the tournament and the Riviera golf course, where he had won an NCAA title with the University of Texas.
After an impressive opening round of 5-under 66 on Thursday, Spieth struggled on Friday, ultimately shooting a 2-over 73 before being disqualified. Following a double bogey on the 18th hole that dropped him back to 3-under for the tournament, Spieth bid a quick farewell to his playing partners and their caddies before swiftly making his way to the clubhouse at Riviera.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Spieth has faced disqualification for a rule infraction. In 2022, he was disqualified from the JP McManus Pro-Am for prematurely picking up his ball on the 14th green before holing out. This incident occurred because Spieth mistakenly believed he did not need to complete the hole since his score would not count towards the team event. However, the pro-am event also had an individual leaderboard for professionals, leading to his disqualification.
Despite this recent setback, Spieth has shown good form this season with two top-10 finishes, including a third-place finish at The Sentry in Hawaii. His second-round score of 73 at the Genesis Invitational was his worst performance of the year thus far and only the second time in 2024 that he shot in the 70s.
As Spieth navigates through this disappointment, his fans continue to support him, eagerly awaiting his future successes on the golf course.
