Leveraging Social Media Influencers: How Democrats are Winning Over Young Voters in Key States

A Democratic super PAC is investing $1 million to launch a campaign to pay social media content creators for sharing pro-Biden messaging.

POLITICO reported that the PAC, Priorities USA, is throwing their support behind President Biden’s re-election and is getting the help of 150 creators on TikTok and Instagram to appeal to young voters ahead of the 2024 election.

Danielle Butterfield, Priorities’ executive director, told POLITICO they are using influencers to spread pro-Biden messages in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona and Georgia.

“It’s crucial to reach out to voters in the places they are spending most of their time,” Butterfield stated. “We’ll have a lot of success in promoting Biden’s achievements when we can illustrate the impact on real people and add personality to what Biden’s accomplishments are doing.”

YOUNGER VOTERS HELP BOOST TRUMP’S EDGE OVER BIDEN IN LATEST FOX SURVEY

In a November poll from NBC, it was found that one in five voters utilize TikTok daily, with a higher share of young women and people of color regularly using the app. The poll also found that Democrats and independents are more likely to regularly use the app compared to Republicans.

Fox News’ Lisa Boothe pointed out that exit polling indicated Biden won young voters by double digits in the 2020 presidential election, but recent polling has shown former President Trump winning the demographic or significantly closing the gap.

In a recent USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll, Trump is leading Biden among voters under 35 by 37% to 33%.

“There’s also a gender division among younger voters, with women tending to be more liberal and men trending more moderate and conservative,” Boothe noted on “The Big Weekend Show.” “So be on the lookout for young voters. They could surprise us if these trends continue.”

Co-host Tomi Lahren stated that she doesn’t believe Biden will do as well with young voters due to their discontent with him and his age.

She added that if Biden isn’t the 2024 Democratic nominee and Democrats focus on issues such as student loan forgiveness, Roe v. Wade, and climate change, “young people will head out to vote for that regardless of how many influencers on the right that you try to cultivate.”

Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, voiced his concern about the Republican response to Democrats’ use of social media influencers

“They’re going to use TikTok and other ways to communicate. But what are the Republicans going to do?” he asked.
